Macleay's Spectre Stick Insect (Extatosoma tiaratum

Origin: Australia

Status: Captive Bred

This species is a large species of stick insect, with females growing to approximately 150mm and males to around 100mm. Female are wingless, whereas males have wings meaning they can fly. Females are also parthenogenetic, meaning they can lay eggs without the need for a male. Parthenogenetic eggs will always hatch into females.

Note that we do keep males of this species with our females so these eggs may be fertilised. Eggs can take up to 6 months to hatch when fertilised and up to 9 months if not.
